2023  Colin and Sara (Hansen) Orth Memorial Scholarships
An endowed scholarship has been created in memory of Collin and Sara (Hansen) Orth who died tragically on July 2, 2016 as a result of a motorcycle accident. Both Collin (1999) and Sara (2001) are graduates of Princeton High School.  They were both active in many activities and in the community. There will be 2 scholarships in the amount of $625 each. Both scholarships will be award to students that have a 3.0 or better GPA. Collin's scholarship is for a PHS male who participates in Athletics as well as Community Service. Sara's scholarship will be awarded to a PHS female who is an active member of Choir and has some Community Service. These scholarships will be award for the first time on May 10, 2023 and will be awarded every year in their memory.

 2022  Ray and Virginia Garbacz Scholarship
A $1250 endowed scholarship was establishes by Ray and Virginia Garbacz.. Ray and Virginia grew up and graduated from high school in Weyerhaueser, Wisconsin. Ray was drafted into the Army in 1953 and served for 2 years in Korea. When he returned, he attended the U of M and St. Cloud State and earned his teaching degree in 1961. Ray and Virginia were married and moved in Princeton where Ray taught at the Elementary school for 30 years. They raised three children on a hobby farm that they established into a nursery selling flowers and vegetables. They strongly believe in working hard and learning by doing so their scholarship will be awarded to a student who will be attending a Vocational-Technical college

 2021  Mary Ann and William T. Trunk Memorial Scholarship by William M. Trunk
A $3000 endowed scholarship was established by the William M Trunk In memory of his parents. William M Trunk is a 1981 graduate of Princeton High School. His parents were dairy farmers and knew that he did not want to be a farmer. He recognized the importance of education and earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting from SCSU and later obtained a MBA degree in Finance from Indiana University. Because of his hard work and success in his career, he donated the funds to establish this scholarship to support a young talented senior on their path to a successful career.

 2020  Jerome (JP) & Joanne Peteron Scholarship
A $500 endowed scholarship was establishes by the family of Jerome and Joanne Peterson. Jerome passed away in 2018 and was survived by his wife, Joanne, of 60 years. Jerome taught social studies, drivers training, and physical education at Princeton High School from 1959-19990. In addition to teacher, Jerome coached football, wrestling and track. He also made sure students had the change to enjoy the outdoors. He was a teacher who impacted the live of the of students. He also served in the Minnesota State House of Representatives for 8 years. This scholarship is for a PHS senior pursing a career in P
hysical Education, Dietetics, Exercise Science, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation and Therapy, or Sports Medicine.

 2018  David and Carole Orton Scholarship
A $1000 endowed scholarship was donated by David and Carole Orton, both graduates of Princeton High School. This scholarship is for students who are attending a 2 year, 4 year or Technical College.

 2017  Brad Nugent Memorial Scholarship
A $600 endowed scholarship in memory of Brad Nugent was established. Miram Wilhem Nugent along with family and friends raised the funds for this endowed scholarship in memory of her husband who died tragically in 2016.

 2017  Jerome Nowak Memorial Scholarship
An anonymous donor has established a $1000 scholarship in memory of Jerome Nowak. Jerome was a long-time resident of Princeton, and a generous, quiet man who was extremely proud of his family.

 2015  Karen Swenson Tomsky Memorial Renewable Scholarship
Princeton Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars was awarded a $10,000 matching grant from Scholarship America. We raised funds to create an endowed renewable scholarship in memory of Karen Swenson Tomsky, a retired teacher from North Elementary, who passed away in 2014. The Karen Swenson Tomsky Memorial Renewable Scholarship will provide deserving students the opportunity to receive financially impactful scholarships, helping them complete their  education degree with a reduced level of debt. The $3,000 scholarship will be awarded to students who are entering their second year of education beyond high school. The scholarships will be renewable and growing in amount each year ($750, $1000, $1250), allowing students to receive aid throughout their college career.

 2015  Karen Bromberg Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is in memory of Karen Bromberg -- PHS grad, wife, mom, daughter -- who passed away from cancer in 2013. Karen was a talented athlete, excelling at hockey, basketball and especially golf. Her friends had several fund-raisers to create this endowed scholarship in her memory. This scholarship is available for a Princeton High School senior female who participated in golf or hockey.

 2013  Kaitlin Smith Bakker Memorial Scholarship
Some members from the Princeton Community along with the Scholarship Foundation sponsored "Celebrating Kati," an event that created an endowed scholarship in memory of Kaitlin Smith Bakker, a 2002 graduate of Princeton High School. "Celebrating Kati" was a complete success! Donations totaled over $27,000 which created an annual scholarship for $1,200 in memory of Kati. Kati was very involved as a student at PHS. She was a valedictorian, accomplished athlete and a leader. She was a nurse at Mayo Clinic and was two semester away from completing her Masters in Nursing Education. Her love of life was an inspiration to all who knew her. 

 2012  Sue VanHooser Scholarship
Princeton Scholarship Foundation received an anonymous $5,000 matching donation toward an endowed scholarship for at-risk students at Princeton High School. We met the goal on January 26, 2012. The first Sue VanHooser Scholarship was given on Awards Night in 2012. The scholarship is given to a student who has overcome difficulties in completing his/her high school education and is attending a college or technical college program. The Sue VanHooser Scholarship is named in honor of Sue VanHooser, a graduate and a teacher at Princeton High School. She started her teaching career as a Home Economics teacher but has been teaching and coordinating the PASS program (Princeton Alternative Secondary School) for the past 22 years. 

 2012  Raymond and Marie Peterson Memorial Scholarship
The Raymond and Marie Peterson Memorial Scholarship will be a new scholarship for 2012 and will be for Princeton High School seniors majoring in education. Both Raymond and Marie Peterson grew up in the Princeton area. Raymond started teaching in a rural school, grades one through eight, before joining the Princeton School District as an elementary teacher and part-time principal. Eventually he became a full time principal, assistant superintendent and finally the superintendent. Throughout his career, his wife Marie was his strongest support. Both believed firmly in the value of teaching and the pursuit of a good education.

 2011  Jack Esler, 1947 PHS Grad, Announces Two Endowed Scholarships in Memory of his Wife and Parents
At this year's Princeton High School scholarship awards night, donor Jack Esler announced that he would be making two $10,000 donations to the Princeton Scholarship Foundation. One would be in memory of his parents and the other in memory of his wife. Jack's emotional story of his challenging educational journey brought many people to tears. His scholarships will be for PHS seniors who will be pursuing a career in education.

 2007  Bryan Opskar Memorial Scholarship for PHS Hockey Players
Bryan Opskar, a 1991 graduate of Princeton High, was a member of the PHS Hockey team and played junior league hockey for several years before attending Concordia College in Moorhead, where he played as a defenseman on the Cobber hockey team during the 1993 and 1994 seasons. Bryan respected himself and others. He was a disciplined, hard-working young man who had a great attitude and was well liked by his teammates. He enlisted in the Marines in 1998 and was assigned to the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. He died July 23, 2005 when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device while he was conducting combat operations near Rutbah, Iraq.

 2007  Kaun Scholarship for PHS Golfers
The name Bruce Kaun will live on the Princeton area through a scholarship set up for high school golfers in his honor. The scholarship fund, which will donate money to a golf team member(s) each year--boys or girls team-- will come from a sum of about $21,000 left by Kaun in his will. The money has to go towards continuing education. The money was given to the golf club who gave it to the Princeton Scholarship Foundation. The board decided to give a $1,000 each year for the next 21 years.

 2004  Rob Howard Scholarship
The Rob Howard Scholarship has been started by Rob Howard, a former Princeton resident who returned here in 1998. Howard was a conservationist in the Department of the Interior with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Arizona. Howard specialized in water conservation, retiring in 1982. The scholarship will go to a student pursuing a career in the community services field such as social service director, social worker, lawyer, paralegal, home economist or counselor.

 2002/ 2010  Mark Hagen / Ron Hagen Memorial Scholarship
The Mark Hagen Memorial Scholarship was established by Mark's family after he passed away in 2002. Ron Hagan, Mark's brother, was added to the name of the scholarship after he passed away in 2010.

 2001  John Lavander Donor of $10,000 Matching Grant to PSF
John Lavander, a 1969 graduate of Princeton High School, along with his wife, Nancy F. Owen, pledged 10,000 in the fall of 1999 if a matching amount could be raised locally. But they kept their names anonymous until the Foundation matched the grant. The foundation raised the matching amount through a variety of fundraisers, including a phone-a-thon.  The Foundation will be able to give a $500 scholarship each year, but Lavander and his wife have also agreed to donate an extra $500 each year for an annual $1,000 scholarship.

"We just think it's a wonderful way for a former graduate to remember our community and support the young people here," said Tom Meinz, PSF Board Member about Lavander. "Obviously, he has set an example for other people, not just in our community, but for people interested in our community to benefit graduates from Princeton High School for many, many years to come. I hope his contribution is an encouragement for other individuals and businesses."

 2000  Medtronic Scholarship
The Medtronic Scholarship was started with a $10,000 donation from Medtronic in Milaca. Each year Princeton Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars awards a $500 scholarship on behalf of Medtronic. 

 1998  Don and Nealna Gylling Honored in Matching Grant Proposal for Scholarship Fund
Two anonymous donors have offered to donate up to $10,000 in a matching two-for-one arrangement with the Princeton Scholarship Foundation. There were some stipulations that must also be met: The scholarship must be called the Don and Nealna Gylling Technical Scholarship and the money must be used only for assisting Princeton High School graduates attending a two-year Minnesota technical college. The anonymous donors wrote, "We've chosen to recognize the Gyllings in this way because of their devotion to the technical-studies students at Princeton High School. Don and Nealna are not only committed educators but they are especially committed to the students they educate and this is a small way to recognize their many years of outstanding work on their behalf."
